Bashur

The Kurdistan Region of Iraq is home to approximately 6 million Kurds and hosts a growing network of universities and research institutions. Erbil (Hewlêr), Sulaymaniyah (Silêmanî), and Duhok are the major university cities. Turning introductions into real support, collaboration, and opportunity.

Bashur — Southern Kurdistan

The Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) operates under the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and has its own Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. University enrollment has grown significantly since 2003.

Major public universities include Salahaddin University-Erbil (est. 1968), University of Sulaimani (est. 1968), University of Duhok (est. 1992), Koya University, Raparin University, Garmian University, and Charmo University. The private University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH), founded in 2006, delivers English-medium instruction and partnerships with UK institutions.

The region faces challenges including funding constraints, political instability, and brain drain — many graduates seek opportunities in Europe and North America. This platform connects Bashur students with the global Kurdish diaspora for mentorship and collaboration.
